Climate Related Death of Coral

Picture taking that giant stride off your dive boat, swimming over to a once beautiful coral reef, that is now dead and covered in a red/brown algae. According to a New York Times article published on April 10th, this is what is happening in Australia.

The damage to this reef off Kiritimati Island is part of a mass global bleaching event (only the third on record and possibly the worst). This image is an example of the bleached and dying Australian Coral Reef. Climate change is causing the red brown algae to take over the reef, killing fish habitats and reef organisms.
